We believe that small groups are essential, since they enable people to get to know each other better, support and nurture each other, and encourage each other to grow in their faith. Through small groups a sense of community is developed where everyone is welcomed and actively involved in the living out of Christ in their lives.
One of the strengths of Westminster is that it is a very welcoming, caring community. The following small groups have been meeting for some time:
This group is composed of members and friends who are 50 years old or older. They meet for supper and then attend the play at the Gainesville Community Theater. They also visit places of interest in North Central Florida. The leader is Lucille Schlichting.
This group meets the first and third Sundays of each month at 4:00 pm for a potluck dinner in the Community Building. We enjoy visiting with each other, having potluck dinners, and occasionally reading books. Please contact Deanna Henriksen at (352) 339-5388 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
On the last Sunday of each month, everyone is invited to join us for a potluck lunch at noon in the Community Building.
These groups have been started recently to expand the Small Group Ministry by giving more opportunities for members and friends of Westminster an opportunity to join small groups. These groups typically meet in homes. Koinonia is a Greek word meaning fellowship, sharing in common, communion. The following groups are currently meeting:
Sunday Evening Koinonia Group (6:00 pm)
This group is facilitated by Tom and Lynne Webster and meets on the second Sunday of the month.
This group is facilitated by Samia Williams and Jeanette Hostetler and meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:00pm at various members residences to be announced.
Women’s Support Group/Book Club (7:00 pm)
This group is facilitated by Nancy Dickson and Carol Alderson.
Other Koinonia Groups will be formed around meeting times and/or new interests. Presently there is interest in forming groups focused on peacemaking, faith in action, and on understanding, respecting, and caring for the environment. If you are interested in joining one of the small groups, please call the church office at 352-378-4032 or email email@example.com and give your contact information and someone will call you. All groups are always open and you can join at any time.
