The present day environmental ministry at Westminster grew out of our concern in 2011 and 2012 that God was calling us to be stewards of His beautiful, sometimes fragile, and amazing Creation in which we co-exist with so many other species. Unfortunately, we do not always understand this call and instead deplete the resources entrusted to us, vastly altering the critical balance of nature leading to mass extinction of species and resulting in climate change, deforestation, unsustainable agriculture, habitat loss, pollution, and other negative events.

Our Earth Care Ministry is engaged in helping the congregation understand the issues by developing programs and resources to inform and suggest simple and practical actions that we can take to conserve energy and resources, and improve the quality of the environment. We also explore and respond to national and local environmental issues.   Since 2014 Westminster has been certified as an Earth Care Congregation by PCUSA.

If you are interested in learning more or joining this effort please call the office at 352-378-4032 and leave your name and contact information and someone on the ECM team will call you. We were certified by PCUSA in 2014 as an Earth Care Congregation.
