Visiting a church for the first time can be a little intimidating. We hope you will find in Westminster a warm, friendly, and welcoming community of faith, and that the information provided here helps make your time with us more comfortable and enjoyable.

We are centrally located in northwest Gainesville, convenient to the University of Florida. Our buildings are nestled on six heavily wooded acres at the southeast corner of NW 34th Street and NW 16th Avenue. You enter our parking lot on NW 15th Avenue just east of 34th Street.  Overflow parking is available across 15th Avenue at Westwood Middle School.

From our parking lot, the sanctuary building is in front of  you, extending to the right. To the left/west of the Sanctuary is the Community Building.  There is ramp access for those who prefer it.

As you enter the sanctuary, you will see some people waiting at the door and in the foyer to greet you. These are our greeters and welcomers. A greeter will give you a printed Bulletin containing the Order of Worship and Announcements. Visitors are invited to share contact information with the welcomers. If you have a  prayer request, these may be made orally during the service before the Prayers of the People.

Our 9:30 AM Sunday Worship Service lasts approximately an hour.  Lay liturgists, including youth, join in worship leadership. A sermon is preached by our pastor, by lay members or by visiting ministers. Our choir enriches our worship with beautiful music in a wide variety of styles (except during summer vacation months).  Outstanding soloists and instrumentalists contribute special musical offerings throughout the year.

A nursery is available for infants and toddlers during the 9:30 worship service, 10:30 refreshments fellowship, and 11:00 church school.  Please ask for a tour of the nursery if you have smaller children.

Childrens’ Bulletins, for their use during the worship service, can be picked up in the foyer as you enter the Sanctuary.  Also, large print hymnals are available at the foyer for those who need them.

The Order of Worship is printed in the weekly bulletin. Hymns sung by the congregation are identified by page numbers in the blue hymnal in the rack beneath the chair in front of you. Bible readings are identified by page numbers in the Bible in the same chair rack. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer together, you will hear Presbyterians say “debts” and “debtors” rather than “trespasses” and “those who trespass against us.”

The worship service includes a Time for Children. Children are invited to collect from the congregation our gifts of food for Gainesville Community Ministries, and then bring those gifts forward and participate in a learning experience with the Liturgist. (Some parents accompany their younger children.)

Following Worship, we gather for fellowship and refreshments in the foyer.

Following the Worship Service, you are cordially invited to speak with the Pastor, the Liturgist or an Elder about any questions you have, including membership.
